Start off this Sunday morning with Mass at Our Lady of the Angels Church in Sauk Centre, MN. After Mass, we will load the bus and start our journey south. In the afternoon, we will stop at The Shrine of The Grotto of the Redemption in West Bend, IA. We will spend 2 hours exploring this composite of nine separate grottos, each one depicting a scene in the life of Christ. This Shrine is on the National Register of Historic Places and is a marvel to behold. We will travel a little further south then stop for dinner and overnight in southern IA.
After breakfast, we will continue traveling all the way to St. Louis, MO. Late afternoon, we will visit the Gateway Arch National Park. If time allows, we will take the tram to the top (630 ft) for a panoramic view of the area. Enjoy dinner at the Arch and then stop by the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis.
Across the river from St. Louis is Belleville, IL. We will spend time in the morning at the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows. This Marian Shrine commemorates the miracle of the snowfall in August at the Basilica of St. Mary Major in Rome. This miracle was a sign to the Pope and the Basilica's funder of where to build the first church in the West dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary in the 4th century. After lunch we will head towards Alabama.
Spend the entire day at EWTN soaking in the campus partaking in activities including Mass, confessions, exploring the grounds, gift store, rosary with the friars and studio tour. End the day with an EWTN live showing with Fr. Mitch Pacwa.
Near EWTN is the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament at Our Lady of the Angels Monastery. This Shrine was founded by Mother Angelica and home to the Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration. Mother Angelica's tomb is here along with many other beautiful sites such as replicas of Michelangelo's Pieta and the Lourdes Grotto.
After a busy week, take a shorter route home by flying from Birmingham, AL to St. Paul, MN. Then our coach bus will pick us up to bring us back to Sauk Centre, MN.
